UST Folding Stove 1.0

Image
Review: The UST Folding Stove 1.0 is a compact, lightweight travel stove that uses solid fuel tablets.  When closed, this folding stove measures 4.5" x 3.75" x 1" and weighs 3.8 oz.  The small size fits easily into standard camping gear and provides another option for a travel or emergency stove. This folding stove burns solid fuel tablets to provide a cooking flame.  The solid fuel cubes can be purchased at camping stores and general sporting good stores.  During transport and storage, the fuel cubes can be placed inside the stove to save space.  The fuel cubes tend to emit a foul smell, so a ziplock bag is recommended to seal off the fuel cubes. To operate the UST folding stove, simply open the stove, place a fuel tablet into the center, and light the fuel tablet.  It is recommended to use a lighter or match to light the fuel tablets as a flint stick might not be enough. Pros: Compact and lightweight Fuel tablets store neatly inside the stove Low cost Cons: Fuel

Terra Hiker 3500 W Camping Backpack Stove

Image
Review: The Terra Hiker Backpack Stove is an ultralight and portable camping stove, weighing in at 8.5 oz.  This travel stove can fold down to fit in the provided carrying case, measuring 8.5 cm x 7 cm x 11.5 cm.  The lightweight and compact design is great for backpackers and campers wishing to travel light. The Terra Hiker Backpack Stove connects to the fuel canister with a tube, allowing the stove to rest directly on the surface.  This reduces the overall height of the stove, making it less likely to tip over.  The stove's pot supports stretches 5.9" in diameter.  Combined with the lower height, the stove should accommodate pots up to 7" in diameter. This stove is designed to use isobutane fuel canisters, similar to the Jetboil and MSR IsoPro fuel canisters.  The stove has a rotary burner design that vents the flames at an angle.  This provides a larger burn area for the flame, allowing the heat to spread better on the pot.  The camping stove has an adjustment

MalloMe Portable Camping Stove

Image
Review: The MalloMe Portable Camping Stove is a light weight and compact travel stove.  The design is similar to the MSR Pocket Rocket and Pocket Rocket 2 design.  The MalloMe camping stove weighs just a few ounces and has a compact size of 1.8" 2.4" x 3.2" when closed. The MalloMe Portable Camping Stove can collapse the pot supports for easier transport in the provided carrying case.  The pot support arms are small and does not provide great support.  The manufacturer says this camping stove can be used with pots up to 7" in diameter, but caution should be exercised when using a pot larger than 5" in diameter.   The camping stove does not provide stabilizers under the fuel canister to keep the unit steady. The MalloMe camping stove also provides a valve to control the flame.  The flame can be turned up for heavy cooking or turned down for simmering.  For maximum efficiency, setting the flame at 50% (half turn) is recommended.  This camping stove include

TOMSHOO Camping Stove Camp Wood Stove

Image
Review: Competition is fierce in the wood burning camping stove arena. The Tomshoo Wood Burning Camping Stove has iterated upon the existing wood burning stoves and fixed some of the common issues found in their competitors. The stove accepts all the natural fuel sources--leaves, twigs, and wood--as well as solidified alcohol.  Unique to the Tomshoo Wood Burning Camping Stove is a third layer they called the Pot Supporter which has an opening to feed the fire as the cooking process continues.  Their Pot Cross Stand also allows for any size container to be used as pot. The Tomshoo Wood Burning Camping Stove assembled size is  13.8 * 17.5cm / 5.4 * 6.9in (D * H).  It folds down to  13.8 * 7cm / 5.4 * 2.8in (D * H) and weighs 1 pound.  The only difference between using natural fuel and solidified alcohol is to flip base plate upside down and placing the alcohol plate above the pot supporter.  It has been suggested to keep feeding small sticks into the stove to maintain a consistent flame

Coleman Portable Bottletop Propane Gas Stove

Image
Review: The Coleman Portable Bottletop Propane Gas Stove is a portable cooking device made for outdoor use.  The Coleman stove is a smallish size camping stove, measuring at 6.6" high and 7.8" wide, and provides a generous 8" cooking bowl.  The larger cooking bowl size works great when there are several campers in the party. This portable stove uses propane as the fuel source.  Propane is readily available in most stores with the 16 oz Coleman propane canisters being the most common.  Propane tanks have the added benefit of being refillable, making it easy to top off a canister before a trip. This portable stove provides a large stable base to keep the unit steady.  There is a control knob to adjust the flame to create the precise temperature, but the stove does not provide a built-in ignition source so keep a lighter nearby.  The stove will last up to 2.5 hours on high on a single 16 oz propane canister. Pros: Quick and easy to use Fuel canister stand support in

Jetboil Flash Camping Stove System

Image
Review: The original Jetboil Personal Cooking System generated enormous buzz when it debuted in the early 2000s.  They were the first to incorporate a heat exchanger with a canister stove unit while fitting everything inside the cooking cup.  Fast forward to the their Jetboil Flash Cooking System that has become one of the most popular cooking systems today. The Jetboil system includes a heat exchanger between the stove and the cooking cup.  The heat exchanger helps block out the wind and focus the heat onto the cooking cup for improved efficiency.  This allows the Jetboil system to boil two cups of water in a quick 100 seconds.  And the cooking cup has a heat activated  color change indicator to signal when the water is ready. The Jetboil Flash Cooking System includes a 1 liter FluxRing cooking cup, the stove unit, a built-in igniter and a stabilizer for the fuel canister.  The Jetboil Flash is compatible with a wide range of add-on accessories including a pot support for use wit

MSR Pocket Rocket 2 Ultralight Camping Stove

Review: The Pocket Rocket 2 is MSR's successor to their popular Pocket Rocket ultralight camping and travel stove.  The Pocket Rocket series of travel stoves are among the lightest in their class, with the Pocket Rocket 2 weighing in at 2.6 oz and folds down to 2" x 2" x 3" (5 cm x 5 cm x 7.6 cm) for travel.  When open, the stove measures 4.8" x 4.8" x 3.6" (12.7 cm x 12.7 cm x 9.1 cm) in size. The Pocket Rocket 2 camping stove offers a fold-down design for pot support, allowing use of different sized pots and cookware.  Due to the small size of the camping stove, caution is recommended when using pots larger than six inches in diameter.  The Pocket Rocket 2 camping stove also provides a control valve for an adjustable flame.  The stove goes from a rolling boil to a slow simmer depending on the need.  For maximum efficiency, setting the flame at 50% (half turn) is recommended. To setup, simply fold up the three pot supports and attach the ultralig
