Review:

The Fire-Maple "Fixed-Star 2" Personal Cooking System is a convenient, self-contained cooking system for camping and travel.  The Fixed-Star 2 cooking system bares similarity with the Jetboil personal cooking system such as the heat exchanger and nested design but at a lower cost.

The heat exchanger is a key design element that helps keep the heat directed at the cooking cup.  This design element improves the efficiency and performance of the travel stove.  The built-in Piezo ignition makes it easy to light the stove.

The Fire-Maple system includes a pot support stand and a protective drawstring bag.  The included 1 liter anodized aluminum cooking container has a handle for use while cooking but also doubles as a locking handle for transport as the camping stove, built-in ignition, pot support stand, stabilizer and fuel canister can all fit inside the cooking container.

Pros:

  • Components store neatly in the cooking container
  • Fast and efficient
  • Built in ignition
  • Pot stand support included
  • Lower cost compared to Jetboil Flash

Cons:

  • Heavier than the Jetboil Flash (21.2 oz vs 13.1 oz)
  • Won't fit all brands of 230 g fuel canisters neatly in the cooking container
