How to use butane camping stove

How to use butane camping stove:

Butane stoves are popular for mid-size camping groups as it provides more cooking capacity than ultra-portable stoves using isobutane fuel while being smaller than propane travel stoves.  They function very similar to a kitchen stove top so they are very easy to use.

Most commonly available in 8 oz canisters, the butane canisters are long and narrow.  They look like cans of spray paint or other aerosol canisters.  Butane fuel canisters are readily available and affordable.  These fuel canisters are not refillable.

An example of a butane camping stove is the Gas ONE Portable Butane Gas Stove.  This design is very common among manufacturers and most of them operate in the same way.  There will be an area for the fuel canister.  For this Gas ONE model, the fuel canister area is to the right side of the photo, behind the dial.

Before inserting or changing fuel canisters, make sure the dial is set to OFF.  Flip open the hatch to the fuel area.  There will be a small notch to help provide grip if needed.  If there is already a fuel canister installed, pull up the lever near the front to go from Fuel Lock to Unlock.  Then remove the old fuel canister.

Once the fuel area is clear, insert the new fuel canister into the fuel area, lining up the fuel nozzle with the stove.  Close the fuel hatch to secure the fuel canister.  The last step is to press down on the lever near the front to go from Unlock to Fuel Lock.

The camping stove is ready for use.  To light the stove, turn the dial to Ignition then adjust the dial to control the fire.  Most models have a built-in ignition system, but for those without, an external lighter will be needed.
